While facing perfect weather conditions at Paul Ricard, all 14 MAXX Formula pilots competed in the early morning qualifying. As already expected, the lap times comparing to the free practice sessions dropped with almost every lap and each driver greatly improved their personal bests from the previous day.
At the end it was Christopher Brenier with his SuperLeague Formula V12, who nailed the best time allover with a 1:54.071, already in his second lap. He will start from pole position at the afternoon race at 16:45. The fans witnessed a very tight battle between P2 to P4, the final gap between the ranks was within 5/10`s of a second. At the end it was Wolfgang Jaksch with his Super Aguri SA 06, who claimed P2 with a fastest lap time of 1:55.335, followed by Didier Sirgue, Williams FW 33, 1:55.751 and Nicolas Matile, Lola Auto GP, 1:55.859!
The Advance Class is led by Martin Kindler with his GP2/11, 1:56.221, who duped Gilles Brenier by more than 2 seconds, 1:58.524! P7 has been claimed by David Moretti, GP2, with 1:59.530 and it was again Hans Laub, who surprised with an impressive performance after his long absence, nailing P8 with a 2:00.451! Luckily Christian Eicke was finally able to race his GP2 without any technical problem and he finished P9 with only 15/1000`s behind Laub. P10 goes to Stefan Glaser, who improved greatly as already expected on Friday after the two practice sessions. Veronika Jaksch is also slowly getting used to her new F1 STR8 and she found 8 seconds comparing to her best practice time on Friday, finally ending up on P11.
Peter Göllner, the Swiss racer from Sped Center is still a bit struggling with the conditions as he is usually always a candidate for a top 5 result in the Advance Class, he made it to P12 with a fastest 2:03.788! P13 went to Anton Werner in the IndyCar and the grid has been completed by Karl-Heinz Becker with a 2:12.585.
